blog

Anna

We have been reading a book called were the Lillie's bloom. In were the lilies bloom what is happing is that there roof caved in and Kiser Peases sister came and said this is her house and she wants it back soon. that's what happened in this chapter. in the whole book there is a lot going on there is arguing and there trying to hide the death of the there father.  I really like the book and I think its interesting about how they lived in the mountains. Some of the themes that they are mountain people and family.

I am like a snowflake by every snowflake is different and I am different from others. Their different shapes and sizes just like people can be different shapes and sizes. They can be pretty and ugly just like people can. They fall just like I can fall off my horse. There pretty just like me. I think I'm a lot like a snowflake.

11/30/12

Anna

We went on a Commuity Service trip last week and went to the Georgia Justice Project and the Genesis Shelter. At the Georgia Justice Project we talked to some people about how the Justice Project works. I learned that you should never be friends with someone that steals. At the Georgia Justice Project they help people that are in jail. There are even kids in jail. There was a ten year old that went to jail.
Commuity Survice is valluble because you get to help other people who need help by giving them things that they need. I thought it was a very interesting trip. I like how you get to help people by donating things too them. At the Genesis Shelter we saw how they lived there they lived in little rooms. There were familys with kids that lived in the rooms. They take people that have newborn babies. I thought it was a really fun trip.

appalachains

Anna

Recently we've been learning about the Appalachian mountain people. Their lifestyle is much different than ours. They make their own stuff. I think it’s really cool how they work hours on making instruments and their really good dancers too! They mostly were in Georgia and Alabama, and they like to sing a lot. There are many different cultures in the Appalachian Mountains. They live in log cabins and dance on the porch. They do a special dancing called clogging. There was a dancing place were they go and dance. There was a lot of mining there and I think there still is. They catch their own meals. They’re famous for telling stories. They are very creative people. Cherokee also lived in the Appalachain Mountains.  They had country accents. I really liked how the Appalachain people lived, I think it’s really cool.

trail of tears

Anna

The trail of tears is a very sad thing. The Cherokees are Indians that had to go through a hard time. The Indians had to be pulled from their houses. It was a very sad time. The Indains lost a lot of there family members. I don’t know how hard it was to get through that but im pretty sure that it was really hard. The Indians had to be split up into groups. The Indians started in Tennessee and ended up in Oaklahoma. It was a very long hike. I feel so bad for them. The Indains even lost their childern. It must have felt horable to lose their children. Every Indian was getting sick and weak. The Indians had such a hard time. The settlers had to have put them in a hard spot. The horses were probbably were really cold too.

I was takin from my home
In tarrible weather
I saw people
Dieing of
Sickness
I was loseing
My family
I felt very sad
I saw many
People suffering
I thought about
How to stop this
But I kept going
Because I knew
It was the only
Thing to do

Dahlonega

Anna

In Dahlonega we learned that a guy named Benjamin Parks went out in the woods hunting and he stubbed his toe on a rock but it was actually gold and that’s how it all started. At the museum there were many things about gold.  There was a machine that crushed the gold and it was called a stamp mill. There is some gold in Fulton County but not much, there is more in north Fulton. I also learned that there was a water hose that had really strong water that made big dents in the rocks and it tore down a lot of trees. In the mine I learned that if they said "fire in the hole" that means run and there was a little hiding spot were they went when a the fire ball went by them. I also learned that in the mine that there was a wishing rock and it was called that because people hit their head a lot on it so they wish they hadn’t. The mine was also under the water table. At the end of the trip we went gold panning and I found two pieces! I really liked learning about the parts of the mine that were old. I liked the guide because he was really funny. I also liked the museum because it was really well laid out.
